Minutes of the December 2002 General Meeting

The regular meeting of Branch 782 was called to order by President Frank Thomasy at 7:31 p.m. the 17th day of December, 2002 at the Branch office, 2628 F Street. Bakersfield. The flag salute was led by Sergeant-at-Arms Jeff Harrington. All members of the Executive Board were present.  The stewards from 04,06,07,08, Camino Media, Delano and Lamont were present. Also present was Newsletter Editor Basil Zuniga, and Assistant Editor Gene ‘Pink” Shebley. Frank Martinez and Anita Holderman of the Social and Recreation Commit tee were also present. The minutes of the November26, 2002 meeting were read and accepted with no additions or corrections. The communications were read. The bills were read by Treasurer Molly Biggar. Gene “Pink” Shebley made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Joe Jones and passed.

REPORTS OF SPECIAL AND STANDING COMMITTEES:

None

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Kim Gerdes asked anyone with calendar money to please turn it in as soon as possible.

NEW BUSINESS: None

GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION: Frank Thomasy discussed the need for a new copier. Arcade Printing has a digital copier at a very good price. Molly Biggar made a motion to move $2000.00 in the Budget from ‘Salaries” to ‘Office Equipment” to purchase a new copier. Seconded by Jerry Patterson and passed. Mike Towery reported that 7 PTF’s will be promoted. Two should have been promoted October 5 and will receive back pay. Andy O’Connell has been appointed the new postmaster in Bakersfield. Brad Smith asked about the Local Agreement. Mike Towery reported that it has been completed and signed. He will get copies to the Stewards as soon as possible.

IMPROVEMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION: Molly Biggar reported that a Budget for 2003 has been set by the Budget Committee. Bill Curtis made a motion to approve the Budget. The motion failed, due to the lack of a second. The Budget will be voted on at the January General Meeting. Copies of the Budget will be available at that meeting.

FINANCIAL SECRETARY’S REPORT: Diana Chavez reported that $16,330.94 was collected for December 2002.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Molly Biggar reported that as of November 29,2002:

Interest Income 1.98

Ending Balance 34,010.78

Walter Johnson, California State Association District 8 Representative was in attendance and wished everyone ‘Happy Holidays”.

The COLCPE drawing was won by Margaret Romero. She donated her winnings to “The Brain Power Project”.

The drawing for $350.00 would have been won by Brian Davis except he was not present.

There were 30 members present.

The meeting adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
