The May 2003

General Meeting

The regular meeting of Branch 782 was called to order by President Frank Thomasy at 7:31 p.m. the 27th day of May, 2003 at the Branch office, 2628 F Street, Bakersfield. The flag salute was led by Sergeant at-Arms Jeff Harrington. All members of the Executive Board were present. The stewards from 01, 04, 05, 06, 08, and 09, Camino Media, Delano, Lamont, Shafter and Wasco were present. Also present was Newsletter Editor Basil Zuniga. Anita Holderman of the Social and Recreation Committee was also present.

The minutes of the April 22, 2003 meeting were read and accepted with no additions or corrections.

APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP: An application was received from Jatinder Riar.

REPORTS OF SPECIAL AND STANDING COMMITTEE'S:

Irene Pasos reported that the Branch Picnic will be October 12. Molly

Biggar will try to get Jastro Park. Anyone interested in helping or having suggestions should contact Irene. The next meeting of the Picnic Committee will be following the July Steward Meeting. Frank Thomasy asked that Diana Chavez be in charge of the Retiree Dinner or Luncheon. Basil Zuniga reported that next month the Newsletter folding will be done by Hillcrest. He thanked Tina Harbour, Downtown, and Jim Sallie, East Bakersfield, for folding last month.

NEW BUSINESS: None

GOOD OF THE ASSOCIATION: Anita Holderman of the Social and Recreation Committee reported that there will be a Golf Tournament on June 8. The fee of $40.00 includes the round of golf, cart, lunch and a T-shirt. It will be a shotgun start, 4 person teams and “best ball scramble”. She also reported that the USPS Picnic will be Sunday August 24th. Oscar Salazar and Norma Hammer of Shafter were in attendance at the meeting with questions regarding PTF and Casual scheduling. Frank Thomasy will be in Shafter tomorrow doing route adjustments; he will look into the scheduling in Shafter. Brad Smith asked for clarification on Bereavement Leave. The local agreement does not specify who “immediate family” is. A discussion was held.

IMPROVEMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION: None

FINANCIAL SECRETARY’S REPORT: Diana Chavez reported that $11,141.82 was collected for May 2003.

The COLCPE drawing was won by Darryl Holderman.

The drawing for $500.00 would have been won by Frances Gallegos except she was not present.
